Wes Magee (b. 1939) was a teacher when he began writing his first poems. A boy in his class complained that there were no dinosaur poems, and Magee set out to write some for him, little realising he was to become a firm favourite in children's poetry.
Jack Mapanje (b. 1944, Malawi) is currently Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He was held for four years as a political prisoner after one of his books was banned in Malawi, 1985.
